Hornets top Pacers in OT

Jan 18, 2015 - 4:38 AM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Gerald Henderson netted 20 points and the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Indiana Pacers 80-71 in overtime on Saturday night.

The game was tied 68-68 following regulation, but the Hornets scored the first 10 points of the extra session to pull away.

Lance Stephenson netted 13 points, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist pulled down 16 rebounds and Bismack Biyombo added 14 boards for Charlotte, which was without Kemba Walker due to a left knee cyst. The Hornets have already been without Al Jefferson since late December due to a groin injury.

"We just relentlessly made plays on the defensive end," Henderson said.

Charlotte has won six of its last seven games.

Roy Hibbert posted 12 points and 14 boards, while David West provided 19 points and eight rebounds for the Pacers, who have dropped four straight contests.

"We're just trying to figure things out," West said. "We just can't find that balance where everybody's clicking."

A Gary Neal jumper staked Charlotte to a 54-51 edge early in the fourth quarter before Indiana went on a 10-1 run to create some distance. Donald Sloan had six points during the surge, which was capped on his driving layup for a 61-55 Pacers margin midway through the frame.

The Hornets responded by scoring seven of the next nine points. A pair of Henderson baskets whittled the deficit to 63-62 with three minutes to play.

Marvin Williams put the Hornets ahead, 68-66, after nailing a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 51.3 seconds to go in regulation, but two Rodney Stuckey free throws with 13.1 ticks on the clock tied it.

Henderson's fadeaway from the right wing was off in the final moments of regulation.

Two Williams jumpers gave the Hornets a 78-68 lead with 33.6 seconds to play. Indiana didn't score in the extra session until C.J. Watson hit a trey with 29.7 ticks left.

Earlier, the Pacers led 21-17 following a quarter of play and Brian Roberts' running jumper in the waning seconds of the first half got Charlotte within 40-37 heading into the break.

The teams combined for just 24 points in the third and Indiana held a 51-50 edge after three.

Game Notes

The Hornets won despite shooting just 30.7 percent (31-of-101) from the floor and 2-of-15 from beyond the arc ... Jefferson, who had 28 points in the first meeting between the teams, missed his ninth straight game ... Indiana was 35.7 percent (30-of-84) from the field and just 2-of-21 from long distance. It also turned the ball over 20 times.
