Grizzlies, Mavs clash in Southwest battle

Jan 19, 2015 - 3:14 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies shoot for a fifth straight win Monday versus the Southwest-rival Dallas Mavericks in the continuation of a five-game homestand at FedExForum.

The Grizzlies made it four straight wins with Saturday's 102-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in the opener of the stay, as Zach Randolph recorded a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Jeff Green, Beno Udrih and Courtney Lee scored 17 points apiece, while Marc Gasol contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Grizzlies, who made 50.6 percent for the game and 8-of-15 3-pointers. Lee hit 4-of-6 from downtown.

"Stopping the penetration was big, I thought our size was good," Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger said.

Memphis is unbeaten in its last four home games and has a 16-4 record as the host this season. The Grizzlies will also welcome Toronto, Philadelphia and Orlando to town, and have an 18-6 mark against teams from the Western Conference (11-3 home).

Grizzlies guard Mike Conley (ankle) did not play versus the Trail Blazers and has missed the past two games. He is questionable Monday and averaging 17.9 points and 6.1 assists.

The Mavericks are in the midst of playing five of six games on the road and are scheduled to visit Minnesota on Wednesday.

Dallas is coming off Friday's 97-89 home win over the Denver Nuggets in the back end of a home-and-home set, as Dirk Nowitzki posted 25 points and Chandler Parsons added 18. Tyson Chandler registered 11 points to go along with 16 rebounds in the win.

The Mavs, who led from start to finish and had an early 17-4 advantage, held the Nuggets to 18 points in the second quarter and scored 49 points in the first 24 minutes. Denver got no closer than six points (73-67).

"I think that what really got us going was defense early on," Nowitzki said. "We got some stops, in transition they had some trouble finding us, and I was able to knock some shots down. But, overall, I think if we hold teams to under 90 at home, that's obviously great for us."

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle is three wins shy of 600 in his career (597-412).

Dallas is 14-7 outside Big D this season. The Mavericks suffered a 114-105 loss at Memphis on Dec. 9 and the division foes will square off Jan, 27 and March 20.

The Grizzlies are 7-1 in the last eight at home versus the Mavs.
