Pelicans pull away in 4th to top Lakers

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis had 29 points and eight rebounds as the New Orleans Pelicans pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 96-80 on Wednesday night.

Davis returned from a three-game absence due to a sprained toe.

Eric Gordon posted 17 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, while Tyreke Evans added 19 points for the Pelicans, who outscored the Lakers 27-12 in the fourth to turn the game into a rout.

"We just love Gordon's floor game, having 10 assists was huge for us," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said.

Jordan Hill tallied 15 points and 13 boards and Kobe Bryant netted 14 points for Los Angeles, which has dropped six straight games.

Bryant hurt his shoulder during the contest when he drove in for a two-handed dunk.

"I felt fine when I went up and didn't feel too good when I came down," Bryant said.

Quincy Pondexter's layup at the third-quarter buzzer gave the Pelicans a 69-68 edge going into the fourth, where New Orleans scored the first nine points of the frame.

Davis recorded a three-point play and hit a jumper before Gordon drove in for a layup to cap the run and give New Orleans a 78-68 advantage at the 8:32 mark.

The Lakers never got within less than eight the rest of the way.

Earlier, the Pelicans led 22-20 following a quarter of play, but the Lakers outscored them 24-21 in the second and headed into the locker room with a 44-43 advantage.

Neither team led by more than five in the third.

Game Notes

The Pelicans announced Wednesday that point guard Jrue Holiday is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks due to a stress reaction in his lower right leg ... New Orleans has beaten the Lakers four consecutive times ... The Pelicans shot 45.8 percent (38-of-83) from the floor, but was just 3-of-16 from beyond the arc.
