Cavs face test with Blazers in town
Jan 28, 2015 - 3:03 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will put their seven-game winning streak to the test Wednesday night when the Portland Trail Blazers stop by Quicken Loans Arena.Cleveland hasn't lost since a road setback to the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 13 and this current run includes a four-game home winning streak. The Cavs have scored over 100 points in every game during this slate of wins and held opponents under the century mark in the last five.
The streak reached seven for the Cavs on Tuesday with a 103-95 victory over Central Division rivals, the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Cavaliers were a two-man show on Tuesday and those two men were hardly a surprise.
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving combined for 70 of Cleveland's 103 points. Irving had 38 points and six assists, while James added 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
"It's not about winning ball games, it's about winning every day and that's part of the process. Kyrie has taken that full storm," James said.
No other Cleveland player scored in double figures, but Tristan Thompson pulled down 12 rebounds off the bench.
The Cavs will host the Sacramento Kings on Friday to end this brief stop home.
Portland will begin a three-game road trip, which should have technically started on Monday. With the impending blizzard scheduled for the New York area, the Blazers' game with the Brooklyn Nets was postponed until Apr. 6.
Last time out, the Blazers received an amazing boost from the unlikeliest of candidates.
After the team announced All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge would miss 6-8 weeks for surgery for a torn radial collateral ligament in his left thumb, Aldridge opted against the procedure.
He decided to put off surgery and play through the injury and Portland was lucky he did. Aldridge scored 26 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the Blazers' 103-96 home win over the Washington Wizards Saturday.
"I felt OK," said Aldridge. "There were a few moments where I got hit and it was kind of tender but for the most part it was OK."
Damian Lillard deposited 20 points with seven assists and Wesley Matthews added 19 points in the win. Dorell Wright finished with 10 off the bench and Chris Kaman grabbed 10 boards.
Nicolas Batum missed the Washington game with a sprained right wrist. He is listed as questionable against the Cavs.
The Blazers will visit the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks during this trek.
Portland has won three straight and seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams. The Blazers have won three in a row in Quicken Loans Arena.
