Raptors blow lead, beat Wizards in OT

Feb 1, 2015 - 7:47 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Lowry scored seven of his 23 points in overtime and the Toronto Raptors escaped with a 120-116 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.

The Wizards rallied from 21 points down with 14 minutes left in the game, tying the score on Paul Pierce's 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining in regulation.

Washington's only lead came 56 seconds into overtime on a free throw by Pierce.

But Lowry scored four points during a quick 6-0 run that put the Atlantic Division-leading Raptors ahead for good on the way to a sixth consecutive win -- their third winning streak of that length this season.

It came a day after Toronto led Brooklyn by 17 points in the third quarter but needed overtime to knock off the Nets 127-122.

Lou Williams added 19 points in this one for Toronto, Amir Johnson scored 17, Patrick Patterson had 16 and DeMar DeRozan netted 15 with 10 rebounds. Greivis Vasquez added 12 points to finish off six Raptors players in double figures.

"We've got the utmost confidence we're going to win every single game until that clock runs out," DeRozan said.

John Wall flirted with a triple-double, scoring 28 points with 12 assists and eight rebounds for the Wizards, who have dropped two in a row and four of the last six.

"We just couldn't get the stop we needed in the fourth quarter and overtime to get over the hump," said Wall.

Bradley Beal added 26 points in the loss, Pierce scored 19 and Nene had 16 points. Kris Humphries added 10 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.

The Raptors led by 19 points in the second quarter, 21 in the third and were up 16 going into the fourth.

But the Wizards got back into it with a 17-2 run that trimmed an 18-point deficit to three with under seven minutes remaining. Later, Wall made a pair of free throws to get them within one.

After Pierce tied the score with his 3, Williams tried a running bank shot for the Raptors at the other end, but missed off the rim and Pierce grabbed the rebounds. Officials put 0.3 seconds on the clock and the Wizards failed in an attempt to throw an alley-oop to Humphries at the buzzer.

Earlier, the Raptors stretched a one-point lead to 17 with a 16-0 run that started late in the first quarter and lasted almost four minutes into the second.

Vasquez, Williams and Patterson each made a 3-pointer in a span of a little over two minutes near the end of the run, which gave the Raptors a 47-30 lead.
