Pelicans end Hawks' winning streak at 19

Anthony Davis made sure of it, totaling 29 points and 13 rebounds in leading the Pelicans to a thorough 115-100 victory over the NBA's hottest team.
The Hawks suffered their first defeat since losing to the Bucks on Dec. 26. They went unbeaten in January (17-0) and were one win shy of becoming the sixth team in NBA history to win 20 in a row.
New Orleans had other ideas.
Eric Gordon scored 20 points in 28 minutes, while Tyreke Evans finished with 15 points, 12 assists and no turnovers for the Pelicans, who are 4-1 on a six- game homestand that concludes Wednesday against the Thunder.
"It was an overall team effort," Gordon said. "Everyone contributed in major ways."
Atlanta was beaten at its own game, as the Pelicans earned a 52-32 rebounding advantage and managed easy looks offensively with good ball movement.
Jeff Teague scored a team-high 21 points, while fellow All-Stars Paul Millsap and Al Horford combined for 23 points on 9-of-23 (39 percent) shooting.
An early 14-3 run gave the Pelicans a double-digit lead, 27-17, following a Jimmer Fredette 3-pointer, and the hosts never trailed again.
It was a 10-point game, 32-22, at the end of one, and Davis kept the momentum going with a putback slam over DeMarre Carroll early in the second. Davis netted 19 points in the opening half, which ended with New Orleans going on a 9-2 run that stretched its lead to 55-42 heading into the break.
The Hawks never seriously threatened in the second half.
Dante Cunningham scored all 10 of his points in the third quarter, including a dunk off an Evans steal midway through the frame, and it was a 14-point difference, 88-74, entering the fourth.
Omer Asik summed up the one-sided affair with a putback slam off his 17th and final rebound. The basket pushed the margin to 101-82 with six minutes to play, and the Pelicans cruised from there.
