Hill leads Pacers over Pistons
Feb 5, 2015 - 4:20 AM Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - George Hill had a game-high 20 points in his first start in over a month and the Indiana Pacers beat the Detroit Pistons 114-109 on Wednesday night.Roy Hibbert added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers, who won for just the third time in their last 12 games.
Hill started for the first time in six games since returning from an injury that kept him sidelined for most of January. He was 8-of-12 from the field and had six assists in the win.
"I think George makes a difference for us," said Pacers coach Frank Vogel. "He creates for others and keeps us organized. He still has a long way to go with conditioning. We're managing that."
Indiana got 15 points from C.J. Miles and 14 each from David West and C.J. Watson.
Detroit guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope left the game after 3:29 with a sore right Achilles and didn't return, saying he sat out as a precaution.
"I feel sore," he said. "I overstretched it in our last game. It's just really sore right now and I can't push off of it. I just wanted to be on the safe side and decided to sit the rest of this game out.
"I didn't want to re-injure it. I tried to loosen it up before the game and it felt good, but then it tightened up again. I'm just going to get treatment tonight and tomorrow and then we'll try it again on Friday."
Andre Drummond had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Pistons, including a tip-in that got them within three with 20.8 seconds remaining. But Indiana made four of its six foul shots down the stretch and Detroit didn't score again until Greg Monroe's bucket at the buzzer.
Monroe added 16 points and Jodie Meeks and Caron Butler each scored 13 for the Pistons, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Detroit shot 50 percent in the first quarter but Indiana shot 60 percent and led all the way for a 29-26 advantage. Monroe's layup with 1:10 left in the second quarter gave Detroit its first lead at 49-48, which held at halftime.
Drummond scored 10 points in the third quarter for the Pistons, but the Pacers shot nearly 78 percent to take an 81-76 lead into the fourth.
Hill, Watson and Damjan Rudez each made a 3 during a 9-0 Indiana run early in the fourth quarter that erased a one-point deficit. The Pacers never trailed after that.
