Wizards aim to stop slide vs. Nets
Feb 7, 2015 - 3:10 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Wizards are mired in a season-high five- game losing streak and hope to put the brakes on the slide Saturday with the Brooklyn Nets in town. The Wizards have lost three in a row at home and are coming off a 94-87 setback at Charlotte Thursday night. Paul Pierce scored 19 points, John Wall added 15 and 13 assists, and both Nene and Rasual Butler scored 11 points.
"You can just take my quotes from the last four games. It's a broken record," said Washington coach Randy Wittman. "It's the same thing over and over again... I don't know. I can't answer. We just came out differently in the second half."
Washington, which is only 2-7 in the past nine games, has dropped five straight contests for the first time since it closed the 2012-13 season with six consecutive losses.
The Wizards will host Orlando on Monday and are 18-8 at home.
Bradley Beal (toe) is questionable versus the Nets.
Brooklyn will commence an eight-game road trip Saturday and has won three in a row following a four-game slide.
The Nets handed the New York Knicks a 92-88 defeat Friday night at Barclays Center and were led by Brook Lopez and Jarrett Jack. Lopez posted 22 points, nine rebounds and six blocks, while Jack added 20 points and eight assists.
Jack hit a big 3-pointer to make it 90-86 with 13.8 seconds left.
"Coach (Lionel Hollins) drew up a beautiful play," said Jack of the shot. "We tried to put them in a situation that if they didn't help on Joe, he was going to have a clear lane to the basket. You've got to give Joe credit for being a willing and able passer. I got a clean look and just tried to knock it down."
Joe Johnson recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds for Brooklyn, which shot 50 percent for the game. Kevin Garnett posted 12 points, nine boards and three blocks in a winning effort.
Brooklyn is 11-13 on the road and will make stops in Milwaukee, Memphis, Los Angeles (Lakers), Denver, New Orleans, Houston and Dallas.
The Nets and Wizards split a home-and-home set in mid-January and will meet again April 10 in Brooklyn.
