Green, Warriors rebound with win over Knicks

Feb 8, 2015 - 4:26 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Draymond Green posted 20 points and 13 rebounds to help the Golden State Warriors earn a bounce-back 106-92 win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Warriors put Friday's 124-116 loss to Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta quickly behind by rolling for much of the night against a Knicks squad playing without Carmelo Anthony. Golden State led by as many as 26 points in the third quarter before New York briefly made it interesting with a 16-0 run in the fourth to pull within five.

"What I like about our team is that they always respond when we're either not playing well or lose a game," said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

Stephen Curry added 22 points and Harrison Barnes tallied 12 in the victory. Klay Thompson finished with 16 points for Golden State but went just 5-of-22 from the field.

With Anthony resting his troublesome knee in the second game of a back-to- back, Langston Galloway paced the Knicks with 15 points. Jason Smith totaled 14 points and 13 rebounds in New York's third straight loss.

After a 15-0 first-quarter run, capped by back-to-back treys from Green and Thompson, staked the Warriors to an early 20-10 lead which they stretched to 32-19 by the period's end, Golden State continued to extend its margin in the second.

Green, coming off a career-best 20-rebound effort against the Hawks, put up six more points during a 10-2 surge that staked the Warriors to a commanding 54-30 advantage with under five minutes to go in the first half. The Knicks then responded via a 14-2 sequence and were within 13 before Curry knocked down a triple in the final seconds to send Golden State into the break up 64-48.

"There's no excuse to start out slow and give up two 32-point quarters," said Knicks forward Quincy Acy. "That's too many points, especially to a team this good."

New York was down 89-63 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, but finished the frame strong to begin to close the gap. Shane Larkin recorded five points and a steal, which led to Tim Hardaway Jr.'s run-out slam that concluded an 11-2 run that cut the deficit to 91-74 entering the fourth.

The Knicks' momentum carried over into the final stanza, with Galloway accounting for seven points during the aforementioned 16-0 tear that trimmed the lead to 95-90 following Larkin's second straight layup with 4:20 to play.

They got no closer, however, as two Curry 3-pointers 41 seconds apart highlighted an 11-2 flurry the Warriors used to close things out.

"You can sense the fear factor come in, and that made them go a little harder," Kerr said. "Steph hit a couple of big ones."

Game Notes

The Warriors went 12-of-25 from 3-point range, with Curry making 5-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc ... Golden State improved to 5-0 against New York in games in which former Knick David Lee, who put up 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, has played for the Warriors ... Golden State is an NBA-best 9-2 in the second half of back-to-back games, while the Knicks are a league-worst 1-12 in such situations ... New York's Lance Thomas scored 10 points starting in Anthony's place.
