Thunder carry momentum into Denver

Feb 9, 2015 - 3:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oklahoma City Thunder have won three of their last four and will take that strong play on the road Monday night against the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

OKC, which has lost four of its last five on the road, defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 131-108, on Sunday afternoon at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Two of the Thunder's three wins during this run came at home.

On Sunday, the Thunder's starters enjoyed the fourth quarter from the bench as the reserves mopped up. Oklahoma City scored 101 points over the first three quarters, shot 52 percent from the floor for the game and led by as many as 32.

Kevin Durant scored 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while Russell Westbrook finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Thunder, who soundly bounced back from Friday's heartbreaking loss to the Pelicans. Anthony Davis made an off-balance 3-pointer with two defenders in his face.

Reggie Jackson added 15 points and six assists off the bench, and Mitch McGary was a surprising spark with 19 points and 10 boards in his third career game.

Steven Adams hurt his finger on his shooting hand in the second quarter. He had to take a pair of free throws left-handed. Adams airballed the first one, made the second and did not return in the second half.

With Kendrick Perkins suspended and Adams injured, that opened the door for McGary.

"We came in and provided a burst of energy. We got the crowd into it," said McGary, who was the 21st pick in the last year's draft and was recalled from the NBADL before the game.

The Nuggets have been a disaster of late, losing five straight and 12 of their last 13. Denver has dropped five straight at home.

On Friday, the Nuggets polished off an 0-3 road trip with a 98-88 loss to the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Nuggets couldn't handle Detroit big man Greg Monroe, who went off for 21 points and a career-high 21 rebounds.

Ty Lawson totaled 20 points and nine assists for the Nuggets. Danilo Gallinari added 12 off the bench, followed by 11 from Wilson Chandler. Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur managed 10 apiece and Jusuf Nurkic pulled down 13 rebounds, but shot 1-for-10 from the field.

The Nuggets trailed by 14 at the half versus the Pistons, then allowed a 14-0 run in the third to push the Pistons' lead to an insurmountable 22.

"We didn't start defending until the second half," Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw said. "We dug a hole for ourselves."

The two teams split a pair of meetings this season with the host coming out on top. The Nuggets are 4-1 in their last five at home against the Thunder.
