Pacers, Pelicans tangle in the Big Easy
Feb 11, 2015 - 3:20 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Pelicans look to close out a three-game homestand on a positive note when they entertain the Indiana Pacers Wednesday. The Pelicans have dropped back-to-back games against the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz, and suffered a 100-96 loss to the Jazz on Monday.
Eric Gordon netted 31 points and Tyreke Evans provided 18 points, 10 assists and seven boards for New Orleans, which has lost three of its last four contests and dropped to 17-9 at home.
Utah used a 29-15 advantage in the third quarter and was led by Gordon Hayward's 32 points.
"Our third-quarter effort was about as poor as it has been all year. Execution and defensively, we were bad," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said.
Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis missed the game with a shoulder injury and is listed as questionable. Davis could rest for the All-Star Game Sunday night. Ryan Anderson is expected to miss Wednesday's game with an elbow injury.
New Orleans will visit Orlando and Miami after the break.
The Pacers had won three in a row until a 95-93 setback versus the San Antonio Spurs Monday night.
Indiana blew a 14-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter and were outscored, 30-14, in the period. Indiana had a 34-18 scoring advantage in the third quarter.
Rodney Stuckey netted 18 points, while David West supplied 10 points and 18 boards for Indiana, which had won four of its last five contests coming in.
"Had some unfortunate plays in the last few minutes," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "A couple of misses inside for us."
The Pacers are 9-19 on the road and will visit Philadelphia next Friday.
Indiana defeated New Orleans, 96-84, on Dec. 23, as Davis led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.
The Pacers took both meetings with New Orleans a season ago and have won the last seven games in this series.
