Warriors vie to solve visiting Spurs

Feb 20, 2015 - 4:06 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs both held pat at the trade deadline and the two sides will meet Friday night at Oracle Arena.

At 42-9, the Warriors hardly felt the need to make any moves on Thursday. Technically, Golden State did make a transaction Thursday, they signed forward James Michael McAdoo for the remainder of the season.

"Why would we make moves? We've only got nine losses," Klay Thompson told the San Jose Mercury News.

The Spurs, the defending champions, also stood pat. At 34-20, San Antonio is seventh in the Western Conference, but only 2 1/2 games out of the third seeding.

The Warriors won three straight before the break, all on the road. Golden State took six of its last seven, but, after Friday, it is back on the road for six straight out east.

The Warriors will visit some of the Eastern Conference's best in the form of the Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets

Golden State has won two straight at Oracle Arena and is 23-2 as the host.

The Spurs already returned from the break with a 119-115 road loss to the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday night.

San Antonio had no answer for LA's DeAndre Jordan finished with 26 points and 18 rebounds. Actually, the Spurs tried something, employing the "Hack-A-Shaq" strategy on Jordan. The Spurs started fouling Jordan during the middle stages of the fourth and the seven-footer missed eight of his 14 bonus shots during the three-plus minute stretch.

"I hate it, but it's a rule. It's part of the game," joked Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "It's a whole lot better than chasing Chris Paul around all day."

Tim Duncan supplied 30 points and 11 boards and Tony Parker provided 21 points and 13 assists for San Antonio, which has dropped two of its last four contests. It was Parker's first double-digit assist game this season.

Aaron Baynes finished with 14, followed by 11 apiece from Tiago Splitter and Marco Belinelli. Manu Ginobili chipped in 10 points as the Spurs shot 51.2 percent from the field. However, the Spurs allowed the Clippers to shoot 54.5 percent.

San Antonio is in the midst of its annual nine-game Rodeo trip. The Spurs will visit the Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns on this sojourn.

The Spurs have won five straight against the Warriors and are 22-2 in their last 24 regular-season games versus Golden State. San Antonio is 10-2 in its previous 12 regular-season contests at Oracle Arena.
