Spurs stop by Salt Lake City
Feb 23, 2015 - 3:25 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The annual Rodeo Road Trip for the San Antonio Spurs takes them to Salt Lake City Monday for a showdown with the Utah Jazz. The Spurs are 2-3 on the lengthy junket and were beaten by the Golden State Warriors, 110-99, on Friday night.
Aron Baynes had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Kawhi Leonard scored 12 points with six rebounds, and Boris Diaw added 11 off the bench for a Spurs squad that didn't get munch from the big three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. All three combined for 18 points for San Antonio, which had 16 turnovers for 26 Golden State points and struggled defending the perimeter.
Golden State sank 17-of-33 3-pointers.
"We couldn't hit a shot," said Parker. "They got a lot of transition points and that's where we lost the game."
San Antonio is 14-14 on the road and will also visit Portland, Sacramento and Phoenix on the road swing.
The Jazz have won three of their last four games and opened a three-game residency with a 92-76 victory over the Trail Blazers on Friday.
Gordon Hayward and Trey Burke scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, for Utah and Derrick Favors recorded 16 with nine rebounds. The Jazz held the usually high-scoring Blazers to 33 points in the second half and grabbed 48 rebounds to Portland's 37.
The Jazz led by as many as 22 down the stretch and snapped a five-game losing streak against Portland. They held a 36-24 points in the paint advantage.
"We were trying to make each other better, and I think you get rewarded for that," Utah coach Quin Snyder said.
Utah has an 11-15 home record and will host the LA Lakers Wednesday.
The Jazz and Spurs have split two meetings this season with each team holding ground as the host. San Antonio is 17-3 in the last 20 games in this series.
