Grizzlies slip past Clippers

Feb 24, 2015 - 6:41 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Conley had 18 points and seven assists as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 90-87 on Monday night.

Jeff Green posted 16 points and six rebounds and Marc Gasol added 14 points, six boards and three blocks for the Grizzlies, who have won four of their last five games.

"We were sluggish in the beginning, but we did a better job in the second half," Memphis coach Dave Joerger said.

Chris Paul supplied 30 points and 10 assists and DeAndre Jordan pulled down 17 rebounds for Los Angeles, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Paul drove down the lane for a layup to pull the Clippers within 83-80 with over three minutes remaining. Conley then banked in a runner and Courtney Lee nailed a straightaway 3-pointer for Memphis' largest lead of the game, 88-80, with 2:28 to play.

The Clippers, though, netted the next seven points to get right back in it.

Paul sunk a pair of foul shots, J.J. Redick nailed a right wing trey and Paul knocked down a left elbow jumper with 1:10 left to cut the deficit to 88-87.

Conley missed a wrong footed floater from the foul line, but Paul wasn't able to get his runner to fall. Zach Randolph was then off the mark on a left wing jumper and Redick corralled the rebound with just over 15 seconds.

Paul, however, turned the ball over as Conley poked it away from him. Conley hit two free throws with 1.5 ticks on the clock to increase the margin to 90-87 and LA turned the ball over on its final possession.

"We gave ourselves a chance, it comes down to execution and I didn't execute on that last play," Paul said.

The Clippers led 22-21 following a quarter of play and 44-38 at the break.

Randolph capped an 11-5 run to start the second half with a jumper, knotting the contest at 49-49.

Jordan's dunk in the waning seconds of the third staked LA to a 68-66 edge heading into the fourth.
