Grizzlies aim to tune out visiting Jazz

Mar 3, 2015 - 2:49 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies stopped a two-game losing streak last time out and will try to build momentum Tuesday night when the Utah Jazz stop by FedExForum.

After consecutive losses to the Sacramento Kings on the road and the Los Angeles Clippers at home, the Grizz held on for a 101-97 victory Saturday at the Target Center over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Marc Gasol had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead Memphis.

Mike Conley netted 17 points, Jeff Green added 13 and Zach Randolph pulled down 11 boards for the Grizzlies, who blew a 15-point third quarter lead, but Conley bailed them out with a go-ahead 3-pointer with 30.3 seconds left.

"It's been a tough, long week and we finished it 2-2," said Gasol. "Of course I wish it was 3-1 or even 4-0, but we finished it off strong and now it's time to move on to the next week."

After Kevin Martin tied the game on a left wing 3-pointer with 43.6 seconds remaining, Conley answered with his 3 at the other end. Gasol had the ball at the left elbow and sent a skip pass to Conley, who nailed the right wing triple to make it 98-95 in favor of the Grizzlies.

Andrew Wiggins' putback dunk trimmed the gap to one, but Conley sunk two foul shots with 11.3 ticks left to make it 100-97.

Martin was off the mark on a left corner trey at the other end for Minnesota and Tony Allen split 1-of-2 from the foul line with 6.1 seconds to play to seal the outcome.

The Grizzlies have a huge showdown against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday at the Toyota Center. Memphis has a 1 1/2-game lead in the Southwest over Houston, which plays in Atlanta on Tuesday without James Harden.

The Jazz have won two in a row, four of their last five and six of their previous eight. Tuesday starts a four-game road trip with stops in Boston, Philadelphia and Brooklyn on the horizon.

After a road win in Denver on Friday, the Jazz returned to Salt Lake City and posted an 82-75 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The 75 points allowed was the second-best defensive effort of the season for this young Jazz squad.

Trey Burke had 23 points and six assists to pace the Jazz. Burke went 5-of-10 from beyond the arc for the Jazz, who have won 13 in a row against Milwaukee in Salt Lake City.

Derrick Favors added 16 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Gordon Hayward finished with 14 points, while Trevor Booker added 12 off the bench. Rudy Gobert had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"It was a tough one. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game," said Burke. "Coming out here on our home court against the Lakers the other night was a game we felt like we could have won. So we just wanted to give the crowd a good game."

The Grizzlies have won five of the last six encounters with the Jazz, but Utah won in Memphis on Dec. 22. That victory ended a five-game skid for the Jazz on Beale Street.
