Hornets top Pistons for fifth straight win
Mar 9, 2015 - 5:07 AM Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Al Jefferson had 24 points and seven rebounds as the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Detroit Pistons 108-101 on Sunday night.Jefferson finished an efficient 10-of-14 from the floor. Mo Williams added 21 points and nine assists for the Hornets, who have won five straight and six of their last seven games on the heels of a five-game losing streak.
"In the first half we had no purpose in our play on the defensive end. In the second half we were a lot better," Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said.
Reggie Jackson posted 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Greg Monroe supplied 18 points and 11 boards for Detroit, which has dropped six consecutive contests.
"They decided to fight in the second half and we never did," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said.
John Lucas' floater in the opening 18 seconds of the fourth quarter staked Detroit to an 86-78 advantage, but the Hornets responded with an extended 22-4 run to seize control.
Lance Stephenson netted nine of the first 12 Charlotte points during the surge, which was capped on a pair of Marvin Williams free throws for a 100-90 cushion with 2:41 remaining.
The Pistons never got within less than seven the rest of the way.
Earlier, Detroit closed the opening frame on an 11-5 swing, taking a 33-27 spread into the second, where it led by as many as 11 before settling for a 62-54 halftime edge.
Jefferson finished off a 10-2 spurt with a jumper to get the Hornets within 68-67 at the 7:49 mark of the second and the game was tied at 78-78 over four minutes later.
Detroit, however, netted the final six points of the period and took an 84-78 advantage into the fourth.

Charlotte's five-game winning streak tied a season high ... The Hornets are 6-3 with Mo Williams in the lineup ... Detroit held a 60-38 points in the paint advantage, but were just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc ... Charlotte shot 51.9 percent (41-of-79) from the field.
