Mavs rout Clippers

Mar 14, 2015 - 5:46 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chandler Parsons led seven Dallas players in double figures with 22 points, and the Mavericks pounded the Los Angeles Clippers, 129-99, at American Airlines Center.

Parsons went 5-of-6 from 3-point range, part of a 16-for-28 performance for the Mavs from long distance. Charlie Villanueva added 19 points, while Devin Harris and J.J. Barea each scored 15.

"The defense dictated the offense, guys were moving the ball, we were playing unselfish basketball," Villanueva said. "Sometimes the shots didn't go in, but we made it up on the defensive end. The ball was a hot potato out there tonight, and it was a snowball effect. We gotta keep it going."

Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis each provided 14 points for the Mavericks, who bounced back from a 33-point home loss to Cleveland Tuesday. They are in sixth place in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of San Antonio and a half-game behind the Clippers. Chandler added 12 rebounds.

J.J. Redick had 17 points, and DeAndre Jordan chipped in 16 points and 18 rebounds for the Clippers, who failed to build on a 120-108 win at Oklahoma City Wednesday.

Jordan hit his first career 3-pointer when he barely beat the shot clock for LA's first points of the night. He air-balled a free throw later in the quarter.

The Clippers led by three after the opening period, but Parsons had 10 points in the second quarter, part of a 38-27 scoring advantage in the stanza for the Mavs. A 15-6 run boosted the hosts to a 59-48 lead, and the Mavs were in front 59-51 at the half.

The Mavericks pulled away by shooting 13-of-21 in the third quarter. Ellis and Parsons each scored eight in the period.

LA went 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the third, and Chris Paul's long-distance shot had the visitors within 65-62. Dallas opened some breathing room with an ensuing 10-2 push, capped by Nowitzki's 3-ball.

In a scary moment, Nowitzki and LA's Glen Davis collided going after a loose ball with 1.3 seconds remaining in the third. Nowitzki got to his feet slowly, but made the two foul shots to close the quarter for a 91-78 cushion.

"We made some bad decisions," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said of the third- quarter breakdowns.

A 24-5 burst to open the fourth made it a blowout. Dallas canned four from beyond the arc during the run, which was finished by Villanueva's 3-pointer at the midway mark of the quarter.

Rick Carlisle secured his 330th win coaching the Mavericks, which passes Dick Motta for second place on the club's all-time list. Don Nelson is the Mavs' all-time leader with 339 wins ... Paul had 11 points and seven assists ... Matt Barnes scored 14 for the visitors, who went 12-of-32 from 3-point range ... Dallas forced 15 turnovers, which led to 28 points.
