Suns resume postseason push vs. Knicks

Mar 15, 2015 - 2:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Time is running out on the Phoenix Suns' playoff push, but they'll keep at it Sunday night when the New York Knicks pay a visit to the US Airways Center.

The Suns trail both the Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Pelicans by three games. Both teams ahead of Phoenix are in action Sunday with the Thunder hosting the Chicago Bulls and the Pelicans at home against the Denver Nuggets.

The Suns have lost three of four and two of three at home.

On Friday, Phoenix couldn't handle the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks prevailed, 96-87, as the Suns squandered a fourth-quarter lead.

Phoenix led by two with under eight minutes left in the fourth when Paul Millsap fired in a 3-pointer that started a string of three straight from beyond the arc for Atlanta that gave it an 86-79 lead.

Korver and Millsap later wrapped 3s around a Marcus Morris jumper that pushed Atlanta's margin to 94-85 as the Hawks shook off their surprising loss to the Denver Nuggets Wednesday night to win for the second time in three games.

"We played well for three quarters, then they had that stretch. Then we ran out of gas," said Phoenix coach Jeff Hornacek.

Markieff Morris led the Suns with 22 points and Eric Bledsoe notched 21 points and six assists in the loss. Marcus Morris added 18 points and P.J. Tucker chipped in 11.

The Suns finish this five-game homestand Thursday versus the Pelicans.

After a win in Los Angeles over the Lakers on Thursday, the Knicks crashed back to earth on Saturday. New York, which owns the worst record in the NBA, fell to the Golden State Warriors, who own the league's best mark, 125-94, at Oracle Arena.

Andrea Bargnani paced New York with 18 points. Alexey Shved managed 14 points, followed by 13 from Tim Hardaway, Jr. Langston Galloway and Cleanthony Early both scored 10 in the lopsided loss.

Golden State used a 6-0 run late in the first to grab a two-point lead, but Galloway nailed a 3-pointer to cap the scoring in the quarter to send New York into the second with a surprising 27-26 lead.

The Warriors regained control with a 12-6 run in the early stages of the second.

Curry supplied three 3-pointers in the final 1:41 of the half as Golden State ended the second on a 13-4 run for a 73-52 advantage at the break.

The Warriors were not threatened over the final 24 minutes as they continued to pour it on and cruised to the finish. Golden State led by as many as 40 in the second half.

"We weren't committed to defending at a level we need, especially against a team like the Warriors," said Knicks coach Derek Fisher. "Second quarter, we got caught playing their game."

Sunday's game concludes the Knicks' five-game road trip out west. They return to Madison Square Garden this week to face the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Suns bested the Knicks by nine at Madison Square Garden Dec. 20 and have two straight wins over New York. The Knicks have won two of their last three in Phoenix.
