Nets pay a visit to KG, T-wolves

Mar 16, 2015 - 1:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets will see familiar face Monday night when they travel to the Target Center to tangle with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kevin Garnett will face his former teammates after the Nets traded him at the deadline in exchange for forward Thaddeus Young. Garnett spent a little over a season and a half with Brooklyn.

"It'll be fun," Nets guard Joe Johnson told the New York Post. "It'll be fun to see him, compete against him. He's a guy that everyone in this locker room learned so much from in just one or two years."

Garnett has missed the last four games with a sore knee, so his availability for Monday is unknown.

The Nets snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday night with a 94-87 road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Young had 21 points and nine rebounds against one of his former teams. Johnson netted 15 points and Jarrett Jack added 12 points and eight assists for the Nets.

"It's hard to win in this league and hard to win on the road. And the way we've been struggling, it's a big win," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said.

The Sixers cut a deficit to two points with 3:36 left, but Brooklyn scored six straight to stem the run. Deron Williams nailed a pull-up jumper, Brook Lopez sunk a pair of free throws and Young flipped in a hook shot to stake the Nets to a 93-85 cushion with 1:19 remaining.

The Nets complete their four-game road trip on Wednesday against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Timberwolves have dropped four in a row and eight of their last nine. This slide coincides with a four-game road trip, which culminated with a 123-97 thrashing at the hands of the defending champion San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night.

Kevin Martin and Zach LaVine paced the squad with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Andrew Wiggins chipped in 13, followed by 12 from Adreian Payne, and 10 apiece out of Gorgui Dieng and Chase Budinger.

The T-wolves were devastated by injuries on Sunday. They were without Nikola Pekovic, Ricky Rubio, Gary Neal and Garnett. They are listed as questionable for Monday.

"It wasn't a fair fight," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "Those guys were devastated by injuries."

The Spurs won every quarter, as they took a 29-23 lead into the second frame and went into the break holding a healthy 60-50 cushion. They shot 55.8 percent from the field, 6-of-10 from 3-point range and scored 15 points off turnovers in the half.

They were somehow better in the third quarter, hitting 63.6 percent (14- of-22) of their shots and went ahead by as many as 33.

San Antonio wound up with a season-high 38 assists on 49 baskets.

"They share the ball," Martin said of the defending champs. "That's one thing we can learn from them."

The two teams split the last four meetings, but the Timberwolves are 9-1 in their last 10 versus the Nets in Minnesota.
