Clippers entertain Pelicans at Staples Center

Mar 22, 2015 - 1:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers aim for a fourth straight triumph when they host the New Orleans Pelicans Sunday at Staples Center.

The Clippers have won three in a row and five of their last seven games, including Friday's 113-99 victory over the Washington Wizards. Chris Paul poured in 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting and handed out 15 assists.

J.J. Redick scored 26 points and made 4-of-7 3-pointers, while Blake Griffin ended with 22 points and DeAndre Jordan snagged 23 rebounds with 10 points for Los Angeles, which shot 52.3 percent for the game and made 12-of-23 from beyond the arc.

"We were knocking down shots," said Jordan. "We're not surprised what J.J. is doing, he's been great for us and he opens up shots for other guys. The more wins we can get the better."

LA had a 35-21 lead after 12 minutes and scored 66 points in the first half. The Wizards made it interesting in the last two quarters, but the Clippers' lead was never in doubt.

The Clippers are 26-10 at home and mere percentage points behind Portland for fourth in the Western Conference. After hosting the Pelicans, Los Angeles will head east for three games against New York, Philadelphia and Boston.

New Orleans will put the finishing touches on a three-game road trip (0-2) and has dropped back-to-back games to Phoenix and Golden State. All-Star power forward Anthony Davis has missed the last two games with an ankle injury and is questionable Sunday. He is averaging 24.6 points and 10.4 rebounds.

In Friday's 112-96 loss to the Golden State Warriors, Norris Cole scored a team-best 16 points off the bench and both Quincy Pondexter and Alexis Ajinca added 15 points for the Pelicans.

New Orleans turned the ball over 21 times for 21 Golden State points.

"They had us on our heels tonight in transition. They drove the ball every single time. I thought off a back-to-back we got real tired," New Orleans coach Monty Williams said referring to the Pelicans losing 74-72 at Phoenix on Thursday.

The Pelicans have a 14-20 road record and were 4-1 in five games prior to the current losing streak. Jeff Withey scored 14 points in the loss.

New Orleans, which is two games behind Oklahoma City for the eighth spot in the West, will begin a three-game homestand Wednesday versus Houston, Sacramento and Minnesota.

Pelicans center Omer Asik (calf) is questionable against the Clippers.

The Clippers and Pelicans have split two matchups this season, but Los Angeles is 9-3 in the past 12 games in this series. Paul was selected fourth overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by New Orleans and played his first six seasons in the Big Easy (2005-11).
