Westbrook's 10th triple-double leads Thunder over Heat
Mar 22, 2015 - 11:56 PM Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Russell Westbrook recorded his 10th triple-double of the season to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 93-75 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday.Westbrook only scored 12 points on 5-of-16 shooting, but he added 17 assists to tie a career high and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Thunder's third straight win.
Enes Kanter led all players with 27 points and 12 rebounds, and five other Thunder players reached double figures, including Mitch McGary with 14, Anthony Morrow with 12, and Dion Waiters and Steven Adams with 10 apiece.
"It was a balanced attack on both ends of the floor," said Thunder coach Scott Brooks.
Miami had its three-game winning streak halted and trailed for the final three quarters. The Heat shot just 39.5 percent and were led by Hassan Whiteside's 13 points. Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic and Mario Chalmers each contributed 12.
The Thunder held a steady lead for most of the game but pulled away in the fourth quarter. After Dragic's jumper cut Oklahoma City's lead to 66-60 with 11 minutes left, the Thunder scored the next seven points, including a 3 from Morrow set up by McGary's kick out pass.
Michael Beasley's layup briefly disrupted Oklahoma City's rhythm, but the Thunder scored 20 of the next 29 points to take its largest lead at 22 points.
"They played like it was a playoff game," said Dragic. "We played like it was a regular season game."
Westbrook, the league's leading scorer, was content to set up his teammates in the first quarter, particularly Kanter. Kanter scored 15 points as the Thunder led 25-21 after one with seven assists from Westbrook.
Offense was harder to come by in the second period. Each team turned the ball over eight times and Miami shot just 26.9 percent. The Thunder led throughout the quarter despite Dragic's three-point play early on pulling the Heat within one. Oklahoma City took its first double-digit lead when Kanter tipped in a rebound at the buzzer to put the Thunder up 48-38 at the break.
The Thunder's lead fluctuated between five and nine points for nearly the entire third quarter until Westbrook's 3 with 32 seconds to go put them up 10. They led 66-58 after three.
