Thunder, Jazz square off in Salt Lake

Mar 28, 2015 - 1:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oklahoma City Thunder had plenty of time to lick their wounds from a recent beatdown and will resume a three-game road trip Saturday against the Northwest-rival Utah Jazz.

The Thunder entered Wednesday's matchup with the San Antonio Spurs winners of four straight and six of their last seven games, but the residents of the Alamo City treated them rudely to the tune of 130-91.

Russell Westbrook and Enes Kanter scored 16 points apiece, with the latter grabbing 10 rebounds, and Dion Waiter rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 points for Oklahoma City, which made 40 percent from the field and was outrebounded, 50-36.

San Antonio shot 58 percent for the game, won every quarter of action and limited the Thunder to 17 points in the fourth quarter (30-17). OKC was outscored 56-40 in the paint.

"It was a tough night, all the way around," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Give them credit, they played at a high level... This is definitely not a night to remember."

Westbrook may have scored 16 points, but is still averaging 31.5 points, 10.9 assists and 9.2 rebounds in his last 14 games.

The Thunder failed to reach the century mark in scoring, something they have done just twice in the past 25 games. Oklahoma City is averaging 103.4 ppg this season and will visit Phoenix Sunday night.

OKC is three in front of the New Orleans Pelicans and 3 1/2 games ahead of the Suns for the final postseason in the Western Conference and has a 14-22 road record. The Thunder have lost three straight and five of their last six road tests.

The Jazz have dropped four in a row and three straight at home. On Friday, the slide reached four with a 107-91 thrashing by the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

The Jazz welcomed Gordon Hayward (shoulder) back to the lineup but fell despite 24 points and seven rebounds from their star swingman. Rudy Gobert added 14 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

"We didn't play the right way tonight," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.

The Jazz cut it to single digits midway through the fourth, with Hayward's jumper making is 59-52, but Ty Lawson and Wilson Chandler scored at the other end around a Randy Foye triple to put Denver back in the driver's seat.

Rodney Hood (stomach virus) and Derrick Favors played 18 minutes and didn't return for the fourth quarter because of back spasms.

The Jazz will play with heavy hearts on Saturday as longtime announcer Rod Hundley died Friday at the age of 80.

Utah has lost two of three meetings with Oklahoma City this season. The Thunder have won seven of the past nine games between division foes, but are winless in back-to-back trips to Salt Lake City.
