Surging Spurs visit struggling Thunder

Apr 7, 2015 - 1:52 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will take their seven-game winning streak to the road when they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday.

The Spurs handed the NBA-best Golden State Warriors a 107-92 setback on Easter Sunday and recorded their 32nd straight home win in this series. Kawhi Leonard scored 26 points with a career-high seven steals, while Tim Duncan supplied 19 points with seven rebounds and Danny Green converted four 3-pointers en route to an 18-point outing.

"Defensively, I think we're more locked in," Green said. "Communicating better (and) it's leading to our offense."

San Antonio made 53 percent of its shots and needed only three players in double figures to get the job done. Stephen Curry was the lone bright spot for the top-seeded Warriors with 24 points.

The Spurs have won 17 of their last 20 games and will try to work on their 20-18 road record before the playoffs. They are sixth in the Western Conference - one-half game behind the Los Angeles Clippers and two games out of the No. 2 spot.

After visiting the Thunder, San Antonio will begin a home-and-home series with the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

Oklahoma City is squandering chances to clinch a postseason spot with three straight losses and five in the last six tries.

The Thunder are coming off Sunday's 115-112 loss to James Harden and the Rockets, as Harden got the best of OKC star Russell Westbrook with 41 points on 12-of-22 shooting. Harden made 6-of-9 3-pointers and sank 11 of his 13 shots from the free throw line.

Westbrook was his dazzling self with 40 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds for his 11th triple-double of the season. Westbrook is fractionally ahead of Harden for the NBA's scoring title.

Anthony Morrow scored 22 points off the bench and Enes Kanter ended with 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Thunder, who had 18 turnovers converted into 22 Houston points and shot 44 percent from the field. Dion Waiters scored 14 points in defeat.

"We turned the ball over too many times," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "They got hot and we had trouble turning them off."

Oklahoma City is only a half-game ahead of New Orleans and three games in front of Phoenix for the eighth and final postseason berth in the West with five to play.

The Thunder have lost two straight at home after winning six in a row at Chesapeake Energy Arena. They will close this three-game stay Friday versus the Sacramento Kings and are 27-11 as the host.

OKC defeated San Antonio, 114-106, on Christmas Day, but dropped a lopsided 130-91 decision in the Alamo City on March 25. The Spurs lead the all-time series with the Thunder by an 85-70 margin, but are winless in four straight trips to the Sooner State.
