Clippers sweep season series from Lakers
Apr 8, 2015 - 6:27 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Griffin scored 27 points with seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers over the rival Lakers, 105-100, on Tuesday night.J.J. Redick also had 27 points, Chris Paul supplied 19 points with 10 assists, and DeAndre Jordan ripped 17 rebounds for the Clippers, who have won four straight and 11 of their last 12.
"We always want to play better than we did, but you have to give them credit," Griffin said. "They hit big shots. We slipped a little bit there but we got stops down the stretch."
The Clippers routed the Lakers, 106-78, as the visitor at Staples Center on Easter Sunday.
Jamal Crawford returned to the court for the first time since March 2 due to a calf injury, and he recorded four points in under 19 minutes of action in the win.
Jordan Clarkson led the Lakers with 20 points to go along with six assists, and Tarik Black added 16 points and nine rebounds.
"We competed. We gave an effort and that is what I'm pleased about," said Lakers coach Byron Scott. "Nobody played great for us tonight, but I'm very happy with our effort."
The Lakers, who dropped a seventh straight game to their rival, have lost four in a row overall.
Tuesday's matchup was much closer than the debacle on Easter, as the Lakers trailed 76-69 entering the fourth.
A 9-2 run midway through the quarter brought them within one, but the Clippers responded with an 8-0 spurt moments later to make it 97-88 with three minutes to play.
The Lakers did not go away, cutting the deficit to three with 15.7 seconds left. However, it became a free-throw contest down the stretch with Paul and Redick knocking down two apiece to secure the win.
Robert Sacre's tip-in capped the first-quarter scoring, as well as a 7-0 run for the Lakers, that cut their deficit to 23-21. Griffin's alley-oop slam from Crawford late in the second quarter helped he Clippers to a 50-39 edge at halftime.
