Warriors host T-wolves
Apr 11, 2015 - 1:48 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors continue their march to the postseason on Saturday night when the Minnesota Timberwolves visit Oracle Arena.
The Warriors wrapped up the Pacific Division title, and homecourt throughout the playoffs a while ago, but playing well was important for head coach Steve Kerr.
After a two-game losing streak, both on the road and to playoff-bound teams in the San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors returned home and held off the Portland Trail Blazers, 116-105, on Thursday.
Steph Curry solidified his MVP case on Thursday with 45 points. Curry shot 17- of-23 from the field and made eight 3-pointers on the night, his fifth breaking his own NBA single-season record of 272 set two seasons ago.
He scored 17 points over the final 5:17 and also handed out 10 assists to keep the Warriors from dropping three straight for the first time this season.
"I tried not to think about it," Curry said of the record. "Thankfully I got it over with and settled into the game."
Klay Thompson added 26 points and Draymond Green chipped in with 11 and 14 rebounds for the victors.
A Nicolas Batum bucket gave Portland a 93-92 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Curry took the reins, rode the momentum of the crowd and carried Golden State to its 15th straight home win.
The Warriors finish the season at home against the Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets.
The Timberwolves have lost nine straight and five in a row on the road.
On Friday, Minnesota fell on the road to the Los Angeles Lakers, 106-98, in a battle of the two worst teams in the Western Conference.
Andrew Wiggins finished with 29 points, 10 boards and six assists for Minnesota.
"Andrew played actively and went to the boards a lot," Wolves coach Flip Saunders said.
Jordan Clarkson of the Lakers finished off a 20-7 swing in the third quarter with a dunk to extend LA's margin to 72-54. They were up 80-71 after three and were never threatened in the fourth.
The Warriors have won four straight and 11 of the last 12 meetings in this lopsided matchup. Minnesota did win at Oracle Arena last season.
