Final
Wall and Wizards down Hawks
Apr 13, 2015 - 2:21 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - John Wall scored 24 points and handed out nine assists as the Washington Wizards breezed past the resting Atlanta Hawks 108-99 in their home finale at Verizon Center. All five Wizards starters were in double figures by the end of the third quarter. Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat finished with 17 and 15 points, respectively, and Nene and Paul Pierce both scored 14 points.
Washington bounced back from a 37-point loss in Brooklyn and finished with an impressive 29-12 record at home.
The Hawks rested three of their All-Stars -- Al Horford, Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague -- and their fourth, Paul Millsap, remained out with a shoulder injury.
Mike Scott led the way with 19 points off the bench, while John Jenkins netted 17 points in a losing effort.
The Wizards sat Wall the previous two games, and the All-Star point guard appeared well-rested with 13 points in the first quarter. His 3-pointer in the final minute gave Washington a healthy 38-20 lead.
"We dug ourselves a hole," Hawks guard Shelvin Mack said. "They're a good offensive team."
The difference never dipped into single digits until the fourth quarter. It was a 66-45 game at halftime and 90-75 after three frames.
Scott nailed a 3-pointer to pull the Hawks within 101-92 with five minutes remaining, but a Wall steal and uncontested dunk ended a long drought for the Wizards and ultimately sealed the outcome.
"They came back and tried to make it a game," Wall said. "They have a great system and great role players."
