Warriors sign Moncrief as shooting coach

Oct 2, 2007 - 9:14 PM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors on Tuesday signed former All-Star guard Sidney Moncrief as their shooting coach.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

An 11-year veteran, Moncrief averaged 15.6 points and 4.7 rebounds with two teams. He played his first 10 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks before a non-descript final campaign with the Atlanta Hawks.

The 50-year-old Moncrief played his first eight seasons in Milwaukee under current Warriors coach Don Nelson.

The 6-3 Moncrief was one of the better shooters in the NBA during his tenure, shooting 50 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line in his career. He will take over the fast-paced Warriors, who launched nearly 24 shots from the arc per game and shot 46 percent from the field as a team.

Moncrief, who was coach of the D-League's Fort Worth Flyers last season, also was an assistant under Nelson with the Dallas Mavericks from 2000-03.
