Mills misses Spurs' NBA loss in Mexico
Jan 15, 2017 - 7:29 AM Patty Mills missed his first game of the NBA season on Saturday night and without his spark off the bench, San Antonio went down to lowly Phoenix 108-105 in Mexico City.The Australian guard was ruled out of the match due to tightness in his left calf only two days after the Spurs' thrashing of the LA Lakers.
Devin Booker was the standout for the Suns, scoring a career-high 39 points for the second straight game in only the fifth regular-season game in Mexico.
Booker was 12 of 22 from the field and Eric Bledsoe added 17 points and 10 assists.
Coming off a loss to Dallas in their Mexican opener on Thursday night, the Suns who are 13-27 and second-last in the Western Conference - overcame an 11-point deficit to snap a two-game losing streak.
Kawhi Leonard had 38 points for the Spurs (31-9).
Booker made two baskets in the last minute, including a dunk off a break with Bledsoe to put the Suns up 106-103.
Leonard made two free throws to get San Antonio within one, PJ Tucker made two free throws for Phoenix, and the Spurs' Danny Green missed an open three-pointer to seal the win for the Suns.
Meanwhile, the Clippers won the NBA battle of Los Angeles, beating the Lakers 113-97 with DeAndre Jordan scoring 24 points.
Jordan also had 21 rebounds, and Chris Paul added 20 points and 13 assists for the Clippers to improve them to 6-0 in 2017.
The Clippers' best start to a year was in 1974 when they went 7-0 when the franchise was located in Buffalo.
In Chicago, Jimmy Butler scored 28 points in his return from the flu, and Dwyane Wade had 17 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter in the Bulls' 107-99 victory over New Orleans.
Gordon Hayward scored 23 points to help Utah beat Orlando 114-107, a victory tempered by the loss of Rodney Hood to a right knee injury with 1:44 remaining.
The Jazz said it was a hyperextended knee and Hood was walking gingerly but without assistance in the locker room.
John Wall had 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists while Bradley Beal added 20 points as Washington used a second-half spurt to beat Philadelphia 109-93.
