G Lawson, C Motiejunas to play in China
Aug 9, 2017 - 9:21 PM Guard Ty Lawson and center Donatas Motiejunas have decided to leave the NBA and play in China this coming season, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.Lawson, who spent this past season with the Sacramento Kings, and Motiejunas, who played for the New Orleans Pelicans, have agreed to sign with the same team, the Shandong Golden Stars.
The details of Lawson's contract were not immediately available, but Sportando reported that Motiejunas has agreed to a $3 million deal.
Lawson, 29, averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 assists while playing 69 games, including 24 starts, for the Kings in 2016-17. His best season came in 2013-14, when he averaged 17.6 points and 8.8 assists for the Denver Nuggets.
Motiejunas, 26, averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 34 games, all off the bench, for the Pelicans last season.
The regular season in China ends in February with the playoffs concluding in March, so Lawson and Motiejunas could latch on to an NBA team that needs help at the end of the season.
