NBA Power Rankings: Week 21 (2022)

Mar 8, 2022 - 4:56 PM

In the last week, there have been plenty of developments in the NBA. Kevin Durant has returned to action for the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics continue to gain momentum with 39 wins on the year. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have struggled recently while the Phoenix Suns have had to play without their two best players.

After taking everything into account, here’s what we came up with for Week 21.

Where's The Value?

Boston Celtics
I've used Boston pretty much every week for the last few weeks. The Celtics have Jaylen Brown back in the lineup and are now just 1.5 games away from the Philadelphia 76ers for the Atlantic and 4.5 games out of first in the entire conference. Boston has been playing elite basketball and having a duo of Brown and Tatum always gives you a chance.

I got the Celtics at nearly +3000 a few weeks ago, but I still think there's value on the Celtics as they move up in the ranks.

New Orleans Pelicans
Despite the Pelicans losing to the Nuggets, on the road, in overtime, New Orleans is an interesting group that could make noise in the NBA playoffs. As long as the Pelicans make the playoffs, it's not going to be easy beating them. Before losing to the Nuggets in overtime, the Pelicans won four straight games.

CJ McCollum has been elite for the Pelicans and with Brandon Ingram and potentially Zion Williamson available for the postseason, this team is extremely dangerous. There's serious value at +24000. But again, it's obviously a long shot. Don't be putting much on it! Know you're likely going to lose it!

Teams You Should Stay Away From

Los Angeles Lakers
Clearly, the only way to win for the Lakers is having LeBron James score 50 points a night. And that's just not going to happen. James will eventually fatigue and be unable to perform at that level throughout the entire season. The front office didn't make any notable moves to help the franchise move forward at the deadline and now the Lakers are pretty much dead meat. Don't bother with the Lakers.

James is still one of the best to do it, but stop expecting him to be as elite as the young guns at age 37. It's just not possible.

Golden State Warriors
Despite being on a losing streak, the Warriors haven't really dropped in their odds to win the NBA Championship. The Warriors dropped in our power rankings but there's still absolutely no value on the Warriors. With Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins not playing consistent minutes due to injuries, the Warriors should've dropped with their odds a little bit.

But it didn't happen. So don't bother with the Warriors.
