The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Nate Hinton to an exhibit 10 deal according to Hoops Hype’s JD Shaw. The undrafted, third-year wing is expected to compete for a roster spot coming out of training camp but will likely start the season with the G-League affiliated Cleveland Charge as they completed a trade for his rights last week.

Hinton spent the last two seasons getting brief stints with the Dallas Mavericks in 2020 and the Indiana Pacers last season. Hinton has bounced around in the G-League spending time with the Long Island Knicks and Santa Cruz Warriors during the 2020 season before joining the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last season. Hinton has averaged 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 steals on .451/.370/.876 shooting splits during his two seasons in the G-League.

At 6’ 5” and 210 lbs., Hinton is somewhere between an oversized two-guard and an undersized wing which seems to be a type of player the Cavs keep collecting. He has proven to be a good rebounder and three-point shooter throughout his time in the G-League and at college for Houston. Both of which are skills the Cavs desperately need on the wing. We’ll see if Hinton can do enough in training camp to separate himself from the other similar type players on the roster.

The Cavs have waived Chandler Vaudrin to make room for Hinton as a training camp invitee. Vaudrin was signed to a camp deal earlier this month after tearing his ACL playing on Cleveland’s Summer League team in 2021. Hinton joins Sharfie Cooper, Jamorko Pickett, and Mamadi Diakite as training camp invitees.
