Howard, Anthony named NBA Players of the Week

Nov 27, 2006 - 8:01 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Orlando Magic forward Dwight Howard and Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony on Monday were named the NBA Players of the Week.

Howard earned Eastern Conference honors after leading the Magic to victories in three of their four games last week. He averaged 18.5 points and a league best 14.3 rebounds while posting a double-double in each of Orlando's four games.

The league's leading rebounder at 13.5 per game, Howard had 24 points and 23 boards in Orlando's lone loss of the week, a 95-86 defeat at Memphis.

Anthony led the surging Nuggets to a 4-0 week by averaging 31.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds. He scored 30 or more points in three of Denver's wins and has scored 30 or points in nine of 12 games this season.

Thanks to Anthony's play, Denver has won five straight and eight of nine after starting the season 0-3.

Other players nominated were Cleveland's Drew Gooden and LeBron James, Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince of Detroit, Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal, Andrew Bogut of Milwaukee, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, Sacramento's Kevin Martin and T.J. Ford of Toronto.
