1. Knicks -1.5 (-110)
Two teams that know each other well will face off Wednesday night in New York City, as the Hawks head north to take on the New York Knicks. With the Knicks winning the series last year 3-1, the Hawks got the better of their first matchup this season, winning 112-99 in Atlanta on November 2nd.
This time, however, the Knicks will look to exact their revenge and return the favor at home. They’ll have to overcome their recent scoring woes, failing to score more than 103 points in any of their past three games (1-2). The recent reports of Trae Young being unhappy with the coaching staff in Atlanta are concerning, and having now lost four of six, I’m buying.
Add in the fact De’Andre Hunter (hip) is out again, and I’m taking the Knicks in this spot at home.
2. Wizards +5.5 (-110)
Two teams in a free fall will square off Wednesday night in Chicago, as the Wizards look to get back on track following three straight losses and six in their past seven games. The last time we saw them on the court was an abysmal defensive performance, allowing the Lakers to score 130 points in Washington.
The Bulls will host this one also having lost three straight, losing four of six on their recent West Coast swing. The defense has likewise been an issue, having allowed 110 points or more in six straight games. With Beal now out of the lineup for the Wizards, I expect a more concerted effort on both ends of the floor knowing they can’t get away with him going off at any given moment.
Dealing with injuries of their own, look for the Bulls to allow the Wizards to hang around in this one.
3. Suns +1.5 (-110)
We head West for this one for the marquee matchup of the night as the Celtics and Suns square off for what could be a preview of this year’s NBA Finals. For the Celtics, a rocky start to the season has been already overcome, as they enter this matchup with the league’s best offense scoring 120.6 points per game. A large catalyst for that has been their 3PT%, which also ranks #1 in the league at 40.2%.
In this one, however, they draw the league’s best team at home, as the Suns are now 12-2 in the friendly confines of the Footprint Center. Allowing 130 points on Monday to Dallas, look for a motivated Suns team to outlast the Celtics in this one.
