NBA First Basket Scorer Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (2/1)

We’re already in February. The season has flown by!

We’ll be looking at some first-basket props with a massive slate on the horizon tonight in the NBA. Over the last couple of days, I’ve been great at projecting the right team but haven’t been able to hit the actual first-basket scorer.

Hopefully, that changes tonight.

First Basket Player Prop Bets

Season record: 0-6 (All wagers are .25 unit)

Washington Wizards vs. Detroit Pistons

The Washington Wizards are terrific at earning the ball first. The Wizards have won the tip in 68% of games this year, meaning they’ve won the tip in two of every three games.

Washington has also attempted the first shot 64% of the time and has made first baskets 58% of the time. Compare that to the Pistons, who have earned just 38% of tips, 38% of first shots and 35% of first baskets.

The Wizards certainly have the edge here. The Pistons won the tip in the first game between these two teams. However, the Wizards were still able to score first.

It was Kristaps Porzingis who got the first basket in that game. He leads the Wizards with 10 first shots and nine first baskets. Porzingis, Kyle Kuzma and Bradley Beal have all been efficient in this market. But I’ll ride with Porzingis. He’s been the most consistent.

Orlando Magic vs. Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers and Magic have already played three games against one another. The Magic won the first two tips, but the 76ers won the other.

Despite the Magic winning two of three tips, the 76ers scored the first basket in two of three games. The Magic won both of those tips with Bol Bol. He won’t be out there tonight in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, the only time the 76ers won the tip was with Joel Embiid. Embiid will be playing and will also be doing the tip.

Embiid has 13 first baskets for the 76ers. He has none against the Magic. That’ll change tonight.

Bet: Joel Embiid (+240)

Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are also winning the tip 68% of the time. They’ve taken the first shot 66% of the time and have made the first basket 64% of the time.

They’ll take on a Golden State Warriors team that has only won the tip 48% of the time. The Warriors have been very good defensively to begin games. That’s allowed them to score 64% of the first baskets. But the reality is that the Timberwolves will at least get the first crack at scoring first.

Rudy Gobert has seven first-basket attempts and nine first-baskets made. He leads the Timberwolves’ first baskets made and has a solid matchup against the Warriors. Let’s ride with the big man.
