According to a press release from the NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been fined $20,000 for his role in the Thursday night altercation with Memphis Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks.

Brooks was suspended for one game without pay. On the play, Brooks struck Mitchell below the belt, prompting Mitchell to throw the ball at Brooks. The two then got face-to-face and had to be seperated. After a review, both players were ejected and Brooks was called for a Flagrant 2 foul.

After the game, Mitchell said that he believed the play was dirty.

“A line has to be drawn,” Mitchell said. “The NBA has to do something about it. I’m not the only person this has happened to, and there’s no place for that in this game. I took matters into my own hands. At the end of the day, that ain’t it.”

“That’s just who he is,” he added. “We have seen it a bunch in this league with him. Him and I have had our personal battles for years. Quite frankly, I’ve been busting his ass for years. Playoffs. Regular season. And the one game he does an all right job on me today, he decides to do something like that. No place for that in the game. Gotta protect yourself.”
