Demopoulos sacked as United NBL coach
Feb 23, 2017 - 2:01 AM Dean Demopoulos has been sacked as coach of Melbourne United after the club failed to qualify for the NBL playoffs.United qualified for the finals as minor premiers in Demopoulos' first season in charge in 2015-16, but came up short this time around.
The club chose not to offer Demopoulos a new contract and will now start the search for his successor.
Melbourne CEO Vince Crivelli paid tribute to the 62-year-old Demopoulos.
"From the time he was hired as head coach, Dean has come to work prepared and passionate every single day," Crivelli said in a statement.
"He led our talented group of players with class and with dignity, and brought a wealth of knowledge, professionalism and experience to Melbourne basketball."
