Sobey, Maric on NBL's free-agency list
Mar 20, 2017 - 1:53 AM Rising NBL star Nathan Sobey could be set to leave Adelaide after opting to explore his options as a free agent.Fringe Boomers centre Aleks Maric's stint with the Sydney Kings could be over after one season, with the club as yet unwilling to offer him a new contract.
The pair are among more than 50 players on the NBL free-agents list, with the signing period beginning on Monday.
Sobey, 26, has joined Greek club PAOK in the NBL off-season, after finishing with an average of 15 points and four assists per game with the semi-finalists.
The guard has emerged as a Boomers prospect after a career-best season in which he linked well with league MVP Jerome Randle, who is also listed as a free agent.
The 211cm Maric enters NBL free agency after an up-and-down season for the Kings, who finished second-last in 2016-17.
The 32-year-old averaged five points and fewer than five rebounds in his 28 games last season after he was recruited alongside Kevin Lisch and Brad Newley in a failed bid to rise back up the ladder.
He has spent the bulk of this decade-long career in Europe.
Illawarra have retained star US import Rotnei Clarke for at least another season, with the guard the only overseas player to have agreed to a contract extension after the 2016-17 campaign.
Melbourne United gun Casper Ware, Cairns star Travis Trice, Brisbane's Jermaine Beale and Perth linchpins Bryce Cotton and Casey Prather are also on the free agency list.
