Wildcats guard tested positive to cannabis
May 15, 2017 - 8:27 AM Former Perth Wildcats guard Jaron Johnson has copped a three-month ban after testing positive to cannabis following an NBL game last season.Johnson tested positive following the Wildcats' overtime loss to New Zealand at Perth Arena on November 13.
The 25-year-old's ban started on March 24, and runs through until June 23.
He is ineligible to participate in any WADA-sanctioned sport during that period.
Johnson endured a turbulent time in his maiden NBL campaign.
He was axed after just three games so the Wildcats could bring in import Andre Ingram.
But when Ingram departed after just one game citing mental issues, Johnson was re-instated.
However, Johnson's recall was short-lived, with the American cut from the roster for a second time just before Christmas following a series of underwhelming displays.
The Wildcats lured Bryce Cotton after that, and the former NBA guard helped the club climb from the bottom of the ladder to a second straight Championship.
Johnson averaged just 13 points per game during his 14-match stint at the Wildcats.
Perth released a statement on Monday saying they were disappointed when told of the news of Johnson's positive test.
"The Perth Wildcats take a tough stance on all such indiscretions," the club said.
