Wildcats' NBL import cut down by injury
Aug 25, 2017 - 2:15 AM The Perth Wildcats are on the lookout for a new import after American Devondrick Walker broke his left foot at training earlier this week.Walker will miss most of the NBL season with the injury, meaning the Wildcats will need to move quickly to find a replacement in time for their season opener against Brisbane on October 7.
The 25-year-old won't require surgery.
The option of luring Casey Prather back to the Wildcats is out of the question after the American joined Melbourne United.
Walker stunned the basketball world with a perfect 12-of-12 three-point shooting display at a D-League Showcase Event in January.
The Wildcats were banking on Walker's presence to provide them with extra firepower from long range.
But despite Walker's injury, Perth remain one of the favourites to win this season's title following the decision of former NBA guard Bryce Cotton to return to the club.
Walker revealed it was Cotton who helped convince him to join the Wildcats in the first place.
"Once he told me he was coming back, I was like 'I think I want to be here with you man'," Walker said earlier this month.
"I've never seen Bryce so happy. I've never seen him so alive, so animated about the game.
"I've seen him over the years in other places, and he didn't have nearly as much energy as he had here.
"We spent our rookie year together with the Austin Spurs in the D-League. The fireworks we had then in terms of our on-court chemistry was really good.
"So for my first opportunity to leave the country, I thought why not go play with a really good friend?"
The Wildcats will be aiming to win a third straight NBL title this season.
