Bullets better for first-year NBL blues
Sep 15, 2017 - 5:45 AM Brisbane Bullets are "miles ahead" of where they were this time last year as they look to build on their comeback NBL season, coach Andrej Lemanis has said. The Bullets were crippled by injury and finished bottom of the ladder in their first campaign back in the NBL after an eight-year absence.
But having laid down all the foundations they didn't have when they were starting from scratch, Lemanis is expecting clear improvement across the board.
"There's that whole thing, people in sport talk about the continuity index and there's been papers on that," he said on Friday.
"I'm a believer in it, players just understanding how one another work.
"You can only get that by spending time together.
"I think we're in a good spot to go out and play well.
"It's part of the growth process as a club, as a team and for us it comes down to focusing on those things we can control."
The Bullets finished as runners-up in the NBL Blitz last weekend, with recruit Travis Trice -- who replaced Torrey Craig after his move to the Denver Nuggets -- named the pre-season tournament's MVP.
Brisbane have three practice games left before their NBL season opener away to Perth Wildcats on October 7.
Then comes one of the biggest matches in the club's history -- a clash with the NBA's Phoenix Suns in the US on October 13.
But Lemanis said none of his players were allowed to even start thinking about that encounter.
"It's not something we'll pay any attention to until we get on the plane and go over," he said.
"We play a home-and-away game (first) which will count for end of season results.
"How we do against Phoenix will not.
"We'll give that the appropriate attention when it comes up."
