Unbeaten Northern Colorado tops North Dakota 70-63
Nov 27, 2009 - 9:22 PM GRAND FORKS, N.D.(AP) -- Will Figures scored 16 points and Devon Beitzel added 14 to power Northern Colorado to a 70-63 victory over North Dakota on Friday.Taylor Montgomery, Yahosh Bonner and Mike Proctor added nine points apiece for the Bears (6-0).
Travis Mertens led North Dakota with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The game was tied 34-34 at halftime before Montgomery's layup gave the Bears a 38-36 edge with 15:58 left. That started a 26-9 run that propelled Northern Colorado to a 62-45 lead.
The Fighting Sioux (1-5) cut it to 67-63 with 13 seconds left, but Figures sank three free throws to seal it.
North Dakota held a 29-25 edge in rebounding, a 12-11 advantage in steals and a 10-9 edge in assists. The Fighting Sioux also forced 22 turnovers while committing 19 but were outshot 54.3 percent to 41.5.
