Marquette defeats South Florida, 63-52

Feb 14, 2010 - 3:49 AM MILWAUKEE(AP) -- Lazar Hayward scored 18 points to lead Marquette to a 63-52 victory over South Florida in Big East Conference play on Saturday.

Hayward added 14 rebounds, as Marquette (16-8, 7-5) won its fifth straight.

Jimmy Butler had 15 points and Maurice Acker added 14, as Marquette won despite getting outrebounded 42-30.

Dominique Jones, the Big East's third-leading scorer at 21.9 points per game, had 16 to lead South Florida (15-9, 5-7) but made just 6 of 21 from the field.

Marquette led 31-27 at halftime and opened the second half on an 18-8 run, including eight points from David Cubillan, to take a 49-35 lead.

South Florida got no closer than six the rest of the way and shot just 29.7 percent in the second half. The Bulls made 4 of 20 three-pointers in the game.
