No. 1 Kansas gets easy win over Colorado
Feb 20, 2011 - 12:12 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Markieff Morris finished with a career-high 26 points to go along with 15 rebounds as top-ranked Kansas easily handled Colorado, 89-63, at Allen Fieldhouse.Marcus Morris and Brady Morningstar both supplied 16 points, with Tyrel Reed adding 13 points for Kansas (25-2, 10-2 Big 12), which bounced back from its loss to Kansas State on Monday.
"My teammates were giving me the ball in the scoring position, which allowed me to knock down shots and score," Morningstar said.
Alec Burks led the Buffaloes (16-11, 5-7) with 15 points and six boards. Cory Higgins added 14 points, while Levi Knutson posted 13 in the loss. Colorado has lost three of its last four, with the only win in that span coming over Kansas State two days before it topped the Jayhawks.
"My hats off to KU," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said. "(Kansas) played awfully well and shot the ball and we couldn't buy a basket from outside."
The Jayhawks scored the game's first seven points, and a Marcus Morris layup just inside the 11 minute mark widened Kansas' advantage to 22-11.
Morningstar scored all of his 16 points in the first half as Kansas took a commanding 48-31 lead into the break.
Tyshawn Taylor connected on a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the second half to push the Kansas lead to an insurmountable 20, and Kansas' lead never fell below 12 throughout the duration.
