White guides Aztecs past Wichita State

Dec 5, 2010 - 9:34 AM San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Billy White scored 24 points to lead No. 17 San Diego State to an 83-69 victory over Wichita State in the Missouri Valley/Mountain West Challenge.

Kawhi Leonard added 16 points, D.J. Gay had 14 and the Aztecs (8-0) extended their school record to 18 consecutive wins against non-conference opponents.

David Kyles scored 18 points and Toure' Murry had 11 to lead the Shockers (5-2), who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

San Diego State led 37-36 at the break, then pulled away in the second half at Viejas Arena.

The Aztecs, trailing by one, used a 21-3 run to take control. White and Leonard sparked the rally with back-to-back three-point plays, and White scored 11 total points during burst.

He capped it with a fastbreak layup at 10:42, giving San Diego State a 67-50 lead.

"Defensively, we were sensational during that stretch, and we were able to keep the run going because we didn't turn the ball over or foul," said Aztecs head coach Steve Fisher. "Then we hung on."

Indeed, Wichita State never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
