Nov 24, 2010 - 5:16 AM Champaign, IL (Sports Network) - D.J. Richardson led the way with 16 points, as the 19th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini defeated Yale, 73-47, at Assembly Hall.

Demetri McCamey posted 11 points for the Illini (5-1), who have won two straight since their only loss of the young season, which was in overtime against Texas on Thursday. Mike Tisdale posted 10 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

Greg Mangano paced Yale with 14 points and Austin Morgan added 12 for the Bulldogs (1-3), who will return home to face Army on Saturday.

The visitors kept the action tight in the first half. Midway through the period, a layup by Raffi Mantilla drew Yale within 12-11. With under five minutes to play before halftime, a pair of free throws by Rhett Anderson kept it close with the Bulldogs trailing 20-15 following Anderson's pair from the stripe.

However, Illinois ended the stanza with a 10-2 run and took a 30-17 lead into the break. The spurt was highlighted by layups from Jereme Richmond and McCamey and a dunk by Meyers Leonard.

In the opening minutes of the second half, the visitors drew within 10, 34-24, after a three-pointer by Mangano.

Over the next 10-plus minutes, the Illini began to pull away. Richardson's bucket less than five minutes into the period gave the hosts a 40-26 advantage, and when Mike Davis hit a shot with 11:20 remaining, Illinois led 50-33.

Illinois' lead grew to 20, 56-36, on a dunk by Brandon Paul with 8:07 on the clock, and the Illini cruised the rest of the way.
