Moore, Temple deal Hoyas first loss

Dec 10, 2010 - 5:43 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ramone Moore scored a career-high 30 points as Temple topped No. 9 Georgetown, 68-65, at the Liacouras Center.

Scootie Randall and Rahlir Jefferson both scored 10 for the Owls (6-2), who gave Fran Dunphy his 400th career coaching victory.

Jason Clark led the Hoyas (8-1) with 15 points and both Austin Freeman and Julian Vaughn scored 14 for Georgetown, which fell to 3-15 all-time against Temple in Philadelphia.

Chris Wright scored 10 points in defeat.

Trailing 39-32 to open the second half, Georgetown made it a 46-44 game at 13:18 with a Jerrelle Benimon layup. But the Owls responded with back-to-back layups from Moore to take a six-point lead.

Temple's lead fluctuated around four until Georgetown used a Wright fastbreak layup and two free throws to knot the game at 56 with just over six minutes remaining. Moore knocked down a three on the next possession to start a 8-3 run for the Owls that put them up five in the final three minutes.

After Vaughn connected on a layup for Georgetown, two Jefferson free throws made it a 66-61 game. However, the Hoyas used consecutive baskets from Wright and Vaughn to make it a one-possession game.

After Temple's Juan Fernandez missed a triple with 15 seconds left and the Hoyas' Hollis Thompson missed a possible go ahead layup, Jefferson iced two from the line with two ticks remaining to account for the final margin.

Temple led by seven at the intermission behind 17 early points from Moore.

The Owls have won 11 straight at the Liacouras Center...Moore's previous career-high was 24 points...The Hoyas won the rebounding margin 32-25.
