Temple tops Saint Joe's for 8th straight win

Feb 21, 2011 - 1:30 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ramone Moore finished with 17 points and Lavoy Allen went for 14 points and 12 rebounds, as No. 23 Temple earned an easy 66-52 victory over Saint Joseph's in Atlantic 10 action at the Liacouras Center.

Juan Fernandez and Rahlir Jefferson ended with 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Temple (21-5, 11-2 A-10), which has won eight straight games overall and nine in a row against the Hawks.

The Owls, who improved to 13-0 at home this season, also got nine points from Khalif Wyatt.

Langston Galloway netted 17 points and Carl Jones added 11 for Saint Joseph's (7-19, 2-10), which has dropped two straight and 11 of 13 overall.

Idris Hilliard's two free throws gave Saint Joseph's a brief 11-9 lead seven minutes into the contest before Temple responded by scoring 11 straight.

Moore started the run with a three-pointer and after Wyatt hit from long range, the Owls were in front by a 20-11 score approaching the midway point of the first half.

A 9-2 run by the Hawks made it a two-point game with 6:47 left, but Temple again had an answer, outscoring Saint Joseph's 13-3 in the remaining time and took a 35-23 edge into the break.

Temple continued to have its way with things in the second half, maintaining a double-figure advantage before eight straight by the Hawks made it a 48-40 game after Jones drained a triple with 10 1/2 minutes to play.

However, Allen stopped the bleeding with a dunk on the Owls' next trip and the hosts quickly built their lead up to 16, 60-44, with 6:22 to go. The Owls cruised from there.

"We played good, unselfish offense. Hopefully that's our mind set," Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said. "When you see 23 field goals and 19 assists you have to be very pleased."
