Oklahoma wraps up sweep of rival Texas

Mar 2, 2014 - 5:52 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Isaiah Cousins scored 24 points to lead Oklahoma to a 77-65 win over No. 24 Texas on Saturday.

The Sooners (21-8, 10-6 Big 12) completed the season series sweep against Texas and Oklahoma State for the first time in the 18-year history of the Big 12. Buddy Hield added 17 points and eight boards.

"Isaiah did an outstanding job throughout and Buddy hit big shots in the second half and (Ryan) Spangler rebounded like crazy," Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said. "I'm happy for the guys. It's tough to beat Texas any time and I'm proud of them."

Cameron Ridley had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Longhorns (21-8, 10-6), who have lost three of their last four. Jonathan Holmes and Isaiah Taylor scored 11 and 10 points, respectively in defeat.

The Longhorns jumped out to an 8-4 lead just over four minutes into the game, however, Oklahoma fired back with a 17-4 tear. Texas answered with six straight but still trailed, 21-18, with under eight minutes left in the half.

The Sooners led 32-25 at the break.

Oklahoma led by six before a 13-4 run, which featured three 3-pointers from Hield, stretched the margin to 15 points, 50-35.

"The three-ball didn't beat us," said Texas head coach Rick Barnes. "What beat us was they got extra possessions. When you have a team that can shoot 3s like they do, you can't give them all the other things we were giving them."

The closest the Longhorns came the rest of the way was 11 as the Sooners held them off.
