Clark leads Oklahoma over West Virginia

Mar 6, 2014 - 7:34 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Cameron Clark scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help No. 23 Oklahoma take a 72-62 win over West Virginia.

Buddy Hield scored 13 points and Je'lon Hornbeak scored 11 off the bench for the Sooners (22-8, 11-6 Big 12), winners in four of their last five games.

"A good win. I thought West Virginia did some things defensively to sort of knock us out of our rhythm in the first half," said OU coach Lon Kruger. "We adjusted to it as the game went on and obviously played better and finished really strong."

Juwan Staten scored a game-high 24 points on 11-of-23 shooting and Devin Williams added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Mountaineers (16-14, 8-9), losers in four of their last five.

"In the second half, they definitely paid more attention to me. They collapsed on my drives a little bit more," Staten said.

Williams hit a jumper moments into the second to pull WVU within 33-30. Later in the half, the Mountaineers scored seven straight to take a 43-40 lead, but a 13-4 run gave the Sooners a 53-47 edge with just over eight minutes to go.

Oklahoma continued to pour it on from there, stretching their lead to 13 several times over the final minutes of the game.

Chase Connor put the Mountaineers up 17-14 just inside the 10-minute make of the first half. Oklahoma scored six straight to regain the lead. Gary Browne stifled the brief spurt with a 3-pointer to tie the game.

Clark nailed a 3-pointer to open up a 10-0 run, but Staten scored the final six points of the half to have WVU within 33-28 entering the break.
