No. 9 Oklahoma State routs TCU

Jan 16, 2014 - 5:13 AM Stillwater, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Smart scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists, and No. 9 Oklahoma State blew past TCU, 82-50, in a Big 12 blowout on Wednesday.

There was no looking past the Horned Frogs to Saturday's showdown with Kansas, as Oklahoma State (15-2, 3-1 Big 12) shot 46.7 percent from the field and held TCU to 29.1 percent shooting.

The Cowboys' starting-five did most of the damage as Markel Brown scored 14 points, Le'Bryan Nash added 13 and Brian Williams had 10. Kamari Murphy added eight points and eight rebounds, and Phil Forte contributed eight points off the bench in the rout.

Karviar Shepherd led TCU (9-7, 0-4) with 13 points, while Michael Williams and Amric Fields netted 11 apiece as the Frogs stayed winless in league play.

"In the second half, it didn't exactly get away from us, they were just better. They wore us down," TCU head coach Trent Johnson said.

The Cowboys connected on seven 3-pointers in the first half, three coming from Smart in the opening four minutes as they jumped out to an 11-4 lead.

Triples by Forte and Brown sparked a 10-0 run a little later that extended Oklahoma State's lead to 30-15, and the Cowboys cruised into the break with a 39-25 cushion.

Smart's tip-in five minutes into the second half stretched the margin to 21, and 14-4 run near the midway point, capped by a Nash layup, gave the Cowboys a healthy 64-38 advantage that was never threatened.

"I thought that in the second half we defended better and made them take tougher shots," OSU head coach Travis Ford said.
